City Council hearing on SLAPP lawsuits and community organizations

A hearing  on SLAPP lawsuits and Community Organizations will take place on January 31 at 3:30 PM in City Council chambers - Room 400 in City Hall.  We urge you can attend.  High attendance at the hearing will show that the citizens of Philadelphia are interested in this issue and therefore City Council would more likely make some effort to help protect organizations such as ours from lawsuits that could potentially end the existence of an organization such as ours.

In today's society any party can bring a suit against another even though there may be no clear connection that the party being sued was in any way responsible for the damage.  Such suits jeopardize the existence of friends groups and other neighborhood organizations as many of these organizations are small and with limited cash to fight a lawsuit.  To help combat frivolous lawsuits City Council is holding hearings on what is termed a Strategic Lawsuit Against Public Participation or SLAPP.

Show your support, see your city government in action and be part of the solution.  We hope to see you there.
